Project Overview

Chinese New Year was approaching and Hoyne wanted to mark the occasion with clients and industry partners. It was also an opportunity to showcase our creativity through a different medium.

Project Brief

The brief was to create a campaign that celebrated Chinese new year and referenced 2016 as the year of the fire monkey. The campaign needed to be engaging and intriguing, and showcase Hoyne’s creative skills. Traditional approaches needed to be reconsidered to reach an unexpected solution.

Project Innovation/Need

The obvious path would have been to show a monkey on the poster but instead we considered the monkey’s mannerisms and how people celebrate the New Year. The end result, a bunch of bananas in the silhouette of a lantern: cheeky, fun and celebratory.

Design Challenge

A self-commissioned project usually has limited design challenges, especially a project with a flexible brief. However, competing with client work, which takes precedent, timing was the key challenge. Despite this the project was designed, finished, printed and sent out within the timeframe.

Effectiveness

The Chinese New Year poster wasn’t designed for profit but instead as a creative piece to give to clients, industry partners, colleagues and friends. Clients contacted Hoyne has a result of receiving the poster and extensive requests have been received for the posters already, which we believe, is a great sign of an engaging creative solution.
