Project Overview

Motorola is undoubtedly a leader in the telecommunications sector – a household name that is renowned for its reliable products and setting benchmarks in the industry which has benefited millions of individuals across the globe. Realising the need for a customised online newsroom, Motorola Australia required a digital platform that could effectively house localised articles, case studies, PR, media generated, and press releases.

Project Brief

Motorola Australia began the initial concept as a destination that readers could easily access on demand articles, share any articles of interest over the relevant major social media services, various marketing channels and via email, and more importantly show leadership qualities which would add to the local as well as global credibility of the Motorola brand. We applied elegant and subtle animations through a strong development backend, and extensively planned for a dynamic yet simple UX in responsive design. By keeping the layout clean and engaging, we fulfilled the primary outcome of revamping the site to become more accessible across all platforms and devices - increasing readership and engagement within the local Australian audience.

Project Innovation/Need

- Utilises Wordpress post formats to make it simple for editors to add various types of content, and custom queries that decide where on the site to display that content

- Seamlessly integrates contact forms into a rigid legacy system that was previously unfriendly to present publicly

- Aesthetically strong presentation of content compared to the previous site experience

- Strong navigation and search capability in allowing users to efficiently find what they are looking for very quickly (with so much information which is still growing)

- The site encourages you to be enriched with relevant content and lead through the site to find more information

- Simplistic UI for sharing from a list or page

- Great search functionality compared to it’s predecessor

- Backend administration made extremely easy compared to the previous website - custom built around clients needs - eliminated a lot of issues from the old site

- Seamless Mobile experience, ease of use and design

Design Challenge

- Original scope included housing of a Linkedin group, but was removed from project scope due to privacy and to utilise the Linkedin group for internal purposes

- To ensure that strict hosting and security guidelines were adhered too, extra resources were required in deployment, it was a smooth experience and all international stake holders were satisfied

User Experience

- Clean, simple and professional design that makes the content king and the navigation simple

- Full responsively designed site means all content is accessible and readable on any device

- Implements SVG graphics to take full advantage of high pixel densities, adding a touch of quality

- Utilises SVG icon animation for increased fluid user experience and increase performance

- Combines three megamenus into a simple and easy to understand navigation structure, while still being flexible enough to modify

- Ability to natively share any article on the relevant social networks

- Fast caching and server side compression speeds up processing & delivery time

- A simple, HTML5 compliant markup structure means the site is easy to redesign and modify in future

- Takes full advantage of touch events on devices that support them, to enable the site to respond similar to a native mobile application would

- ‘Similar articles’ algorithm keeps visitors consuming content for longer

- Simple call-to-actions and social network integration drives visitors to become connected into the Motorola Solutions ecosystem
