Project Brief

Currently most workplaces use an employee counselling provider (EAP) for employees who are under extreme stress. However, only 4% use the EAP when as many as 30% experience stress levels so high that it interferes with their ability to work. EAPs aren't used because the idea of taking time off work to go to a therapy appointment when you're stressed is daunting.

Uprise is an app-based mental health program that can detect employees who are starting to struggle with stress and intervenes early to prevent a crisis. An employee can complete a mental health checkup in 2 minutes and is then offered a one month program that teaches proven psychological skills to manage thinking, stress and behaviour. The skills are based on 10 years of research and are backed by 14 published research papers by the founder of Uprise, who completed a PhD in online psychological treatments.

Employees are also linked with a phone coach who calls them weekly to tailor the skills in the app to their individual situation and needs. The coaches are doctoral level psychologists trained in evidence-based mental health approaches.

Project Need

4% use existing employee counselling services but as many as 1 in 3 experience severe stress in the workplace

86% of employees with a mental health disorder would rather suffer in silence than discuss their condition with a work colleague

User Experience

Employees are given access to an app that provides weekly video content. The videos are less than 3 minutes long and are all based on research-tested approaches such as cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT). An employee learns a key skill that is proven to help manage stress via the video then they book a call with a phone coach. The coach calls them to show them how to apply the skill in their individual situation and offer support and encouragement. The program goes for one month at which point 80% of employees will be back in the normal range. Uprise arranges referrals for individual who need face to face support. We also offer ongoing programs for people who enjoy the weekly coaching and would like to continue.

Project Marketing

We currently market via facebook campaigns.

Project Privacy

Employee data is encrypted and kept confidential from the workplace. Employers are provided with de-identified monthly reporting.

Apps more than ever are helping our communities to connect and engage, from emergency services to Not for Profits to social groups, these apps not only assist in delivery but provide efficiencies importantly providing those at the coalface more time to do their important work whether it be fighting fires or managing the local team. It's not all serious though we're also looking for apps that work to help bring the community groups together with fun and enjoyable activities.
