Project Overview

Named in reference to the sun which highlights these bold architecturally designed towers, Solis is a significant presence on the Liverpool skyline, standing out from the crowd in a dramatic fashion. As a whole, this is a development which offers urban families a centrally located refuge, delivering a sense of respite and connection with the landscape. Impressive by day and night, its views stretch across the surrounding parkland and waterways as far as the Sydney CBD.

Project Brief

The vision for Solis was to set a new benchmark for the next generation in apartment design for Liverpool. This market often provides smaller apartments due to affordability, so we spent a tremendous amount of time considering and redesigning every element of the apartment layout. Detailed planning went in to every piece of space allowance for furniture to make sure our homes worked very efficiently, allowing every unit the added flexibility of an extra study or media area.

Project Innovation/Need

Our motivations firstly to capture the landmark, corner position and the use of vibrant colours helped to accentuate this idea, it’s brought a feeling of celebration in this new apartment design. Secondly we wanted to rationalise this buildings materiality and structural components to deliver a cohesive design quality. We wanted to incorporate a ‘kick-ass,’ luxurious, 3 level high entrance that when embellished with decorative materials, created spatial drama, enticing owners and visiting guests. It felt it was important for us to provide ‘a massive podium communal garden’ allowing residents to socialise, therefore creating a strong sense of belonging and happiness for the occupants.

Design Challenge

We worked very closely with the builder and developer. This communication was vital to prove to all involved that we could create the best outcome in terms of design excellence and it didn’t necessarily need to cost more. Using smart strategies you can produce a ‘showcase’ development that makes a positive impact on people’s lives.

Sustainability

Sustainability was implemented using natural cross ventilation, solar access, rain water collection and energy saving fittings. Landscaping was added in to any open public and residential spaces available in order to reduce the carbon footprint.
