Project Overview

In response to the increase of internet media content throughout traditional newspapers, studios require complex walls as background to shoot videos and to produce interview programs. The design of the new office includes a variety of scenes that allow shooting in every corner without extra studio space. The corridors, conference rooms, and lobby can all be transformed into studios. Should there be a need for quiet video recording spaces, two small conference rooms with soundproof doors and green screens can also be used as studios at any time.

Project Brief

This design is inspired by the cutting methods of the diamond and symbolizes the diligence of the managers. The diamond is also known as vájra in Sanskrit and is the hardest material on earth. Buddhist scriptures use the diamond to describe the unswerving determination of the practitioner. The manager of the Epoch Times vows a steady heart that is like the diamond, fearless in the face of the power of the Chinese government. The Epoch Times insists on presenting clear messages about China and is the only independent media in the free world that is not controlled by a consortia, bought by the Chinese government nor afraid of their power. Epoch Times insists on broadcasting the news of China to the world while spreading news of the world throughout China. The company believes that the transparency of information enables safety between Taiwan and China, and even the stability and security of the world. Ensuring the people’s right to information and freedom from cover-ups by those in power is the social responsibility and mission of the media.

Project Innovation/Need

1 Every corner could be backgrounds of talk shows for internet media
2 Saving a lot of space of studios and save money for building temporary backgrounds.
3 Tremendous downsize the area of the whole office.
4 Totem of diamond, universe, stainless net, newspapers wall and map of China, all these elements reflect the spirit of the design of the company.

Design Challenge

To present the spirit of Epoch Times doing now.

The right side of the entrance is built with a net of stainless steel which symbolizes the wall of the Chinese communist government, dividing and blocking freedom of the press. Behind the net is a map of China arranged with the Epoch Times newspaper. This symbolizes the Epoch Times’ efforts in breaking through the obstacles and restrictions and a two-way communication for true information between China and the world.
