New York City Department of Design & Construction Grand Winner - Motorola, Procter & Gamble and Many Other Exciting Winners and Firsts

New York, NY, May 22, 2014 - Celebrating courage in design from both commissioners and creators, The New York Design Awards are pleased to announce Built/NYC at the Department of Design and Construction wins the Design Champion Award, among many other outstanding winners at the inaugural 2014 New York Design Awards. 80 design projects were selected as finalists in the Awards, which attracted over 280 entrants in its first year.

Awards were announced by design100 and City Design Awards Founder Mark Bergin, on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Steelcase's beautiful Columbus Circle Headquarters. Executive Director of The American Institute of Architects (AIA/NY) Rick Bell made remarks, alongside Mark Stefurak of Steelcase, DDC Director Victoria Milne, among an array of industry notables and outstanding entrants, with the support of AIGA/NY, NYCEDC and NYCxDesign

"There have been an extraordinary range of winners who have pushed the boundaries to design fresh and innovative outcomes," said Mark Bergin of design100 and City Design Awards. "This year Built/NYC, a pilot program funded by the NYC Council and managed by the DDC, to provide economic stimulus to the City’s design sector stood out to the panel as the Grand Winner."

In addition, 33 category winners were announced at the Awards and include: Motorola / Digitas for Moto Match; Empire City Casino and STUDIO V Architecture for Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway; Will.i.am / Struck for Wizards and Robots; Museum of Jewish Heritage / C&G Partners for Against The Odds: American Jews & The Rescue of Refugees 1933-1941; Shutterstock / STUDIOS Architecture for Shutterstock Headquarters; Procter & Gamble for SK-II Pop Up Studio; New York City Mayor's Office / Simply Grid; St. Bart's Church / OCD for St. Bart's Church Identity; Women in the World - Event Experience; and Harlem Biospace. The full list of winners can be found at http://newyorkdesignaward.com/nyc14/winners_list.asp.

The New York Awards are part of the City Design Awards, a global multi-disciplinary awards program. The winners were based on over 2,500 ratings from the marketplace, industry and judging panel. All winners of the 2014 Awards are available for interview.
