The design challenge addressed was to build on the legacy of the original Alpine Jug with a new fully automated production line, improved material processes and functionality.

Project Brief

A range of Alpine Jugs in 2.5L and 5L Capacities which pay homage to the original cooler jug.
The design is to reinvigorate the insulated drink jug concept through a totally new assembly process and add to the consumer experience by improvements in function and ergonomics.
It should also embody world’s best quality and reliability and be a bright new addition to the Willow range.

Project Need

Innovation:
- A method to attach the Tap during the moulding process
- Handle clicks into raised and lowered position
- Reduced number of Tap components from 8 to 3
- Improved Spout cover which helps to exclude any dirt or dust from the spout area
- A more rugged base for greater durability
- An elevated base to allow air circulation at ground level
- Large insulation space all round to keep drinks cool
- Optimised cooling with tight fitting screw lid
- Ability to drink straight from the Tap
- Automated construction

- Getting the shape and profile right so that the heritage of the original jug is evident
- Designing the integrated Tap as part of the inner bottle
- Adding handle and tap functionality and usage flexibility
- Reducing manufacturing cost

We pride ourselves in our automated processes which ensure the minimal use of materials without compromising quality and product integrity. We operate a continuous regrind process to reclaim all waste material for later recycling. Our products are designed and manufactured with a promise to offer many years of enjoyment and avoid ending up as land fill.




This award celebrates creative and innovative design for either a component or overall product. Consideration given to aspects that relate to human usage, aesthetics, selection of components and materials, and the resolution of assembly, manufacturing and the overall function.
