Project Brief

Inspired by the project brief to bring an organic feel to the Square, Falinc came up with the design theme 'The Australian Rock Garden’ – the concept of plants and foliage sprouting from the rocky ground of Fed Square.

Illustrations are based on Australian flora; with the colour palette of the Australian landscape – the desert, eucalyptus and blackbox natives. The designs were developed over deckchairs, umbrellas, cushions, directors chairs, and 6 metre long furniture storage units.

The two storage units, which are permanent fixtures in the square, are used to house the furniture overnight. Reflecting the strong arts-based interest that Fed Square is known for, the storage units showcase an exhibition of brightly coloured furry garden implements and gnomes, similar to those you may find in an Australian potting shed.

Project Need

This project demonstrates Falinc's passion and expertise in bringing together the complementary disciplines of graphic design and product design with creativity and innovation.

We have explored, challenged, and combined all aspects of brand, design and product to create a distinctive and cohesive 'place within a place', whilst working within the brief, delivering Fed Square brand values, and continuing to inspire creativity to their audience.

Falinc are know for applying a creative and strategic instinct to everything they do, whether it’s the rigorous approach we take to solving a problem, seeing opportunities others miss, being environmentally conscious, or ensuring what we produce meets our exacting standards.

Sustainability

All the products were designed and manufactured in Australia. We used Australian sustainable hardwood for the furniture, and where possible we used local materials across the project.

Consideration was given to the environmental impact of the products to achieve maximum efficiency of materials, and by designing and manufacturing high quality products that are durable for long term use.

This award celebrates creativity and innovation in the intersection of communication design and the built environment, and is concerned with the visual aspects of wayfinding, communication identity and brands, information design and shaping the idea of place. Consideration given to clarity of communication and the matching of information style to audience.
