Project Brief

Inspired by sunny summer days spent in the studio, the daisy range from Tufts is made from brightly colored porcelain. With functional pieces for the table such as bowls and egg cups and decorative items including tealights and plant pots, the Daisy range is made to make you feel happy!

Handmade in Melbourne in the Tufts studio, this range is slip cast from reclaimed porcelain.

These pieces are food safe and can be used in a multitude of ways.

Daisy is available in Blue, Green, Magenta, Orange, Green, Yellow and custom colorways.

Project Need

Daisy is a bright happy range of products made locally using local materials.

The very inception for this product range was a request by local non-profit hospitality project scarf (http://scarfcommunity.org/) for some unique tableware pieces.

So taken were we with their enthusiasm for what they do, we got to work in the studio during the sunny height of summer and the Daisy range was borne.

Design Challenge

The design challenge here is to make a local product that is inexpensive, true to the material and identifiable as made by hand. The design makes use of the pouring process and utilizes the irregularity of the poured pattern to produce unique products.

Sustainability

This product is designed to make full use of the locally produced porcelain that we use to make our products. Material that is trimmed and waste from the thrown production pieces we make is is simply made into casting slip - saving us the more laborious process of reclaiming it into workable clay.

This award celebrates creative and innovative design for either a component or overall product. Consideration given to aspects that relate to human usage, aesthetics, selection of components and materials, and the resolution of assembly, manufacturing and the overall function.
