Project Overview

Next to a secluded boulevard and with inside a long metal fences, a building with signs of history spilled with sunlight, where the bodegas casks alternated regularly, that strengthens the three-dimension effect by reflecting lights and shadows on different materials. This is a museum, located at the center of Beijing City, that is rebuilt from a wine factory. This museum, based on the ideas of wine making, corresponds to the history of the building and deliberately presents a new configuration and interior design that create a sophisticated and interesting space in a contemporary atmosphere.

Project Brief

On the basis of the ideas of four wine-making elements which are earth, water, fire and grain, the interior design and configuration bear the dynamic sequence in diverse areas. After pushing the main door inside the metal fence and coming into a space based on the idea of “earth,” we can see two big walls which put up a sequential display gallery, and rectangular space. The area, by the side of the rectangular space, is reserved for brewmasters who teach and learn skills. When walking further along the main aisle, we will see a large space, based on the idea of “water,” for new launch events. In the pure white space, the delicate channel introduces water till the main hall, the skill creating quiet and fashionable atmosphere when floating water surrounds in front of the stage.

Project Innovation/Need

On the basis of the idea of “fire,” the bar area preserves the large wine tanks, where the designer ingeniously remodels into private rooms, behind which the space is designed for seats, tea rooms, and wine cellar on the second floor. At the end of the aisle, the white space, based on the idea of “grain,” makes the space tell its own story by remodeling the circular space, for making wine in the past, into a place for exhibition and interaction with visitors. On the basis of the idea of “ornamental,” the banquet space on the second floor demonstrates the contemporary majestic cultural space by means of large paintings of traditional drama that integrate the old and new elements.

All things on earth are endless and have their own destiny. Similarly, the history or wine makes the audience learn the story of architectures and experience the brand new appearance.
