Project Overview

Kupu is a photoelectric smoke alarm, designed by internationally famous designer Harri Koskinen. The whole product is convenient for you to install and use. There are no tiny push buttons, and the whole external casing acts as a press switch for silencing false alarms and testing the performance of the product. Installing takes merely a few seconds with double-sided 3M tape or screws. The battery can last for 5 years and the smoke alarm has a warranty of 5 years (excluding the battery).

Project Innovation/Need

Most accidents happen at home. Because Jalo Helsinki smoke alarms are easy to install, you avoid unnessessary climbing and minimize the risk of falling. If you burn your toast and set off a false alarm, you donĀ“t have to look for the little red button or tear down the device. The whole outer shell of Kupu and Lento works as an off-switch. Just press it and the alarm will stop. These simple little details make it more desirable to install a smoke alarm in the first place. User-friendliness increases security.

This award celebrates creative and innovative design for either a component or overall product. Consideration given to aspects that relate to human usage, aesthetics, selection of components and materials, and the resolution of assembly, manufacturing and the overall function.
