Project Brief
The apartment was to serve as the London base for an international family of four, with a master bedroom and bedroom for each child, all en suite, as well as a guest cloakroom for when the apartment is used for entertaining.
The living and dining spaces were to be distinct but connected and the design feel was to strike the perfect balance between traditional luxury and the contemporary and unique, with almost every single detail, from the dining table to bedside tables to wall-coverings, bespoke-designed, in order to ensure both a feeling of luxury and exclusivity and to articulate the exact look and feel the client required.
The overall brief was to be 'bold and elegant, timeless and sumptuous'.
Project Innovation/Need
This is true tailored design, where a London home-from-home in London suits the exact personalities, aesthetics and usage requirements of the client family.
As a Mediterranean family in a colder clime, the clients were seeking for the interior design to express their tastes and create a sense of warmth and intimacy - as well as glamour! - via smokier, darker textures than might be the norm in London, from the 'bee' wallpaper in the boy's bedroom to dark and moody voiles, metallic and reflective wall coverings and dark gloss wood.
Design Challenge
Goddard Littlefair's clients on this project had strong views and clear aesthetic sensibilities, but there needed to be a lot of communication - including across a second language - to ensure that the final environment was a perfect articulation of the required aesthetic, look and feel. The brief was very much an evolution of communication as well as expression.
