Project Overview
This hotel displays a unique design quality that relates not only to the site itself but also to the brand it represents. The creative thread running through the building is at times humorous and constantly challenges the norm of hospitality environments. This new hotel captures an atmosphere that is fresh, playful and inspired by the British seaside.
The hotel is a new build property on tight sloping site in the heart of Bournemouth, that holds the all the key facilities that the Hilton brand promises to offer. The top-floor bar with panoramic views provides a key destination to not only the hotel guests but also locals allowing them to celebrate their city.

Project Brief
The hotel was to be designed to help redefine tired stereotypes of the coastal hotel, while inspiring the guest to engage in their in playful childhood and enjoy moments of nostalgia. Due to the coastal location, influence is to be drawn from the colours, textures and details found in the surrounding area while constantly challenging the norm of hospitality.
Project Innovation/Need
Innovation is demonstrated throughout every area of the hotel as every small detail has been considered. The main art influence is through the toy wind mills which is seen with tile patterns to the physical items which guests are free to take an enjoy. Building from this concept every facility within the hotel builds on this design concept from the reception displaying an art feature made from the old service bells, the Schpoons & Forxs restaurant exhibiting bespoke lighting through the use of wooden kitchen utensils and the meeting rooms expressing 3D art, that provokes the guest to recall how business and communication used to be formed. All these forms of art are aimed to entertain, amuse and inspire interaction.
Design Challenge
Producing the building came with a challenge as it is a tight, sloping site with roads either side which forced for the most accurate planning. Within the hotel, challenges were present due to the classic design of a hotel being tested, and the innovation that is displayed within this hotel came with a challenge to ensure that all items were able to withstand the use while up keeping the hygiene, durability and ease of maintenance required within a branded property. Budgets were also challenging to ensure design impact whilst also ensuring no overspend.
Sustainability
A focus was applied to source highly skilled British artisan craftsmanship, promoting UK manufacturing and inherently reducing the carbon footprint, by reducing the travel of the installed goods to the very minimum.
