Project Overview

Invoice2go is a mobile app that makes it effortless for business owners and freelancers to track work and collect payment the instant a job is complete. The app was designed by a small business owner with the goal of making it incredibly easy to create and send invoices, estimates and other important documents, and now to get paid.

In November 2015, Invoice2go launched a mobile payments feature powered by Stripe Connect, revolutionizing how small business owners and freelancers get paid. No longer do the smallest of businesses need to wait for a check in the mail, within a few taps they can accept payment the instant a job is complete.

Organisation

Invoice2go

Team

For many years at Invoice2go, it was just Chris Strode and it wasn't until after the success of the iPhone app, that he hired the first employee. Today, Invoice2go has 105 employees with a small team working on the mobile payments feature, alongside Chris.

Project Brief

Saving time is a big deal for small business owners, and every element of the Invoice2go user experience centres on that insight, particularly with the launch of a mobile payments feature, by completely eliminating the delay of waiting for a check in the mail, or chasing up late payments.

The key benefits of the payments feature include:

* It’s really convenient:
In three simple steps, Invoice2go users can:
- Send professional invoices from their phone, tablet or computer.
- Securely accept customer payments.
- See the deposit automatically reflected in their dashboard and reports.

* Faster payments and greater control over cash flow:
Mismanaged cash flow is one of the most significant contributors to small business failure. Small businesses can now offer customers an easier way to pay on the spot, and, as a result, see that money deposited in their bank account faster.

* It levels the playing field:
Giving customers the option to pay with a credit card levels the playing field for small businesses, arming them to compete with large companies. More options means better customer service and a better relationship with customers.

Project Need

The launch of Invoice2go’s mobile payments feature has transformed how small business owners and freelancers get paid in the United States, Australia, United Kingdom, Ireland and Canada (available in additional markets soon). This feature allows every type of business owner, no matter how small, to get paid by debit and credit card, getting them paid quicker and opening the door to new opportunities.

Managing cash flow is a common issue for small business owners, and poor cash flow too often leads to small business failure. By having an easy way to send professional invoices on the spot, Invoice2go customers report that those accepting digital payments are seeing money hit their bank account in as little as four days.

The combination of invoicing and a mobile payments feature differentiates Invoice2go from other solutions. Bringing the entire invoicing process, from billing to payment, all seamlessly in one app is a game-changer for every small business owner who has until now lumbered with the manual process of chasing, collecting and banking checks to keep cash flow in order.

User Experience

Emphasis on simplicity and an intuitive experience: Invoice2go is laser-focused on making it incredibly easy to create and send invoices, estimates and other necessary documents. And it’s not just about providing ease-of-use for its own sake - it’s about removing barriers for small business owners to create invoices, send them out to customers and get paid as quickly as possible, because it directly affects cash flow. The harder it is to create an invoice that accurately reflects services and products provided, and to deliver it in a timely manner, the more likely it is to lead to lost revenue opportunities.

Invoice2go has remained true to its roots of being an app born out of a real small business owner’s frustration with products that were too complicated to use and/or didn’t provide the capabilities every small business owner wants from an invoicing solution. That Invoice2go is consistently a top-grossing business app on the App Store is a testament to its focus on an experience users appreciate.

Project Marketing

Word spread fast about the ease and convenience of Invoice2go and the consistently high App Store ratings drove the app’s initial success, and continues to be a key driver of subscriptions.

The Marketing strategy for the launch of Invoice2go’s mobile payments involved creating compelling content to engage a wide range of small businesses, public relations for authority building and driving awareness, search engine marketing, email marketing, radio advertising, and optimizing App Store reviews. Each approach leverages customer insights gained from user testing, surveys, data points, and other methods.

Invoice2go has more than 200,000 customers worldwide, a community of small business owners who are passionate about their business and the app’s impact on their operations. We engaged with this community through channels including social media, user panels, and email about the new feature launch.

Offering a low barrier to entry, users can trial the Invoice2go app for free before subscribing. A variety of pricing plans means Invoice2go meets the needs of every small business of every size.

Project Privacy

Invoice2go cares about the security of user information, and uses commercially reasonable physical, administrative, and technological safeguards to preserve the integrity and security of all information collected.

Invoice2go collects credit card information using a security-enabled, transparent pass-through to a payment gateway provider and does not store full credit card numbers or any CVV2 data itself. Any credit card information provided is stored by third party payment processors, who comply with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS).
