Some of Chicago’s leading design has been celebrated as winners are announced in the Chicago Design Awards.

“Chicago is one of the world’s leading cities and design centres. In the awards this year we’ve seen some truly outstanding projects,” said Chicago Awards Chairman Mark Bergin.

Unique to the Chicago Design Awards, each award is shared between the commissioner and the designer; recognising that relationships and collaboration are at the heart of the design industry.

“It’s fantastic to see so many courageous design commissioners and designers collaborating and creating outstanding design. These relationships are essential to the design industry and need to be celebrated for the industry to continue it’s outstanding performance,” Mr Bergin said.

Notable projects to win a Chicago Design Award in 2016 include the Maggie Daly Park for Urban Design, LondonHouse Chicago for Mixed Use Architecture, the SRAM Headquarters for Corporate Interior Design and Brooklyn Boulders Chicago for Commercial Architecture. Other winners included Swift & Sons, CycleOps, the Hilton Garden Inn and the Kimpton Gray Hotel.

The Chicago Design Awards is organised by design100 a global community of 75,000 design experts that celebrate creative courage, recognise design excellence and grow demand for design. In Chicago a panel of some of the world’s leading design minds provided curatorial, judging and creative direction.

design100 run in awards throughout the world including London, San Francisco, New York, Hong Kong and Sydney, and provide the design community links into global markets and an efficient method to gain recognition in export markets.

“We are extremely proud and excited about the success of our Chicago awards,” said Mr Bergin.

“And we’re excited about its continuing growth and further involvement from leading design organisations, studios and brands as we work together to strengthen the design economy and increase awareness about the importance and unquestionable benefits of good design.”
