Several months ago, R/GA relocated its entire 900-person New York headquarters into a state-of-the-art connected office without a glitch. The technology worked flawlessly and the organization felt immediately at home in its high tech, yet surprisingly relaxed new digs.
R/GA’s current incarnation is the Company for the Connected Age, so it’s fitting they walked the talk by devising a new office that both shows what a connected space can be, and also doubles as a lab for testing new digital ideas and applications its clients can benefit from.
The objectives for the new office are threefold: Retain and recruit the best talent by creating an office with exceptional tools that enables them to do the best work of their careers. “Today the competition for talent isn’t coming from the advertising industry, it’s coming from technology companies like Facebook and Twitter,” Greenberg says. “One of the best ways we can compete is to offer the most creative, collaborative, and innovative workspace.”
Next, it had to be a living lab where R/GA could test innovations like GPS sensing beacons, apps, and networked office communications.
And third, the space would need to be a center for further developing expertise in creating beautifully functioning, connected spaces: a significant new consulting revenue stream for R/GA.
