Project Brief

Float answers the question: Who’s working on what and when?

The cloud-based application delivers team scheduling for the world’s top agencies and brands in more than 50 countries. These names include Razorfish, droga5, Ogilvy, AKQA, Edelman and Deloitte.

Since 2012 over 400,000 tasks and 50,000 projects have been scheduled using Float.

The 2014 release was declared “a beautiful new design” by UnmatchedStyle.com and was the only enterprise application to be shortlisted by Product Hunt on launch day.

The design was led by Yaron Schoen, who was shortlisted for the .Net 2013 Designer of the Year, and photography shot by award-winning creative Anton Repponen.

Float leverages the latest web technologies and includes real-time notifications, responsive-design, personal schedules and powerful multi-keyword search. Since the October release, new signups are up over 170%.

Project Need

The 2014 launch of Float introduced responsive design to enterprise applications, with it’s My Schedule viewable on any device.

Leveraging the latest web technologies, including Backbone.js, it’s the only solution that allows you to slice, dice, click, drag and duplicate tasks, all with the performance you’d expect of a desktop application.

Project Managers can collaborate and share the scheduling duties with real-time notifications and multi-access rights.

An API and Export CSV option allows customers to integrate Float with their favorite services.

User Experience

Every touch point, from signup to schedule, was re-thought for the 2014 release of Float. The goal was simple: How do we save Project Managers time?

This started with the signup form - boiling new account creation down to just five fields. This included time-saving features, such as pre-filling the Team URL based on the Team Name.

It extended all the way through to the Schedule view, with powerful search that could be bookmarked, saved and recalled, keyboard shortcuts for frequent actions, and skill tags to easily identify the right person for the job.

Inviting our customers to test early iterations of Float throughout 2014, their input helped shape the schedule design to maximize every available pixel and give Project Managers the most effective view of their team’s time.

Project Marketing

Float customers are Project Managers at agencies, studios and firms. They’re web-savvy, seek out solutions to solve their problems and respect good interface design.

With this in mind we sought about first ensuring the product was right. That it sells itself in it’s design, functionality and ease-of-use.

We then made sure we were there when they needed us, with targeted search buys across Facebook, Linked in, Google and PM-specific websites.

We’re also big supporters of the growing PM community. Float was an early sponsor of the inaugural Digital PM Summit in Philadelphia, and our CEO, Glenn Rogers, was a guest speaker at this year’s Digital PM Connect event in New York.

Project Privacy
