Streamlining the translation experience, Speak & Translate is a voice and text translator that allows consumers to communicate effectively in any corner of the globe. Users can instantly speak 42 languages and hold written conversations in 100 languages. It was considered one of the App Store’s “Best of 2014” and has an average rating of 4.5 stars from more than 1,500 reviewers.
One of the most popular translator apps for iOS in almost 100 countries and now with Apple Watch Support, Speak & Translate has more than eight million downloads of its paid and free versions.
Project Need
With globalization, it’s become easier than ever to cross borders and explore new regions around the world. While travel technology has advanced to conquer geographic barriers, Speak & Translate breaks down language barriers by helping users communicate – whether it’s over a conference call, catching up with your relatives halfway around the world or while traveling in a new country. The app, available for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, gives access to more than 40 languages for voice translations and 100 languages for text translations.
User Experience
Especially helpful for consumers on the go, Speak & Translate offers an intuitive and seamless user experience. With the Handoff feature, translations are never interrupted, so users can simply pick up where they left off from their iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch. Through iCloud integration, translation history is synchronized across all Apple devices. The app also features a useful widget that saves translations to serve as an offline phrasebook and includes a number of ways to share translations with others. Whichever way users prefer to hold their device, translations easily switch between portrait and landscape.
The user is engaged by a possibility to translate his voice to another language instantly. To achieve this we have developed a process of translation that involves voice recognition technology as well as machine translation and vocalization.
Project Marketing
The project marketing is highly consumer oriented: we implement changes seen is user reviews on the App Store, we provide a 24/7 technical user support, in case we see interest in the app in a particular country we add UI localisation. Though the customers are closely engaged in the value co-creation and product development, we do not actively use paid promotion – no TV ads, conferences, paid publications etc. - channeling the efforts to meeting user expectations instead.
Project Privacy
The security and confidentiality of user information is very important to us, so we take appropriate security measures (including physical, electronic and procedural measures) to help safeguard user information from unauthorized access and disclosure.
All translations made within the app stays on user's device only. They aren't stored anywhere else. There's only an option to sync them across all user's devices with the help of Apple iCloud technology, which is highly secure.
