Project Brief

Right now, there’s a seismic-shift in the way we work. Businesses want more flexible employees and employees want more flexible jobs. The good news is, we’re all getting what we want thanks to 42.6 million freelancers around the world.

They account for over 30% of US workers and within the next 15 years it’s estimated that over half of the American workforce will be 'gigging'. With more and more people joining this £300 billion industry everyday, we wanted to target and help this growing global market.

Why? Because between us, here at Thrive, we've over 30 years of experience as freelancers in the creative sector ourselves. We know how tough it can be, and we know that sometimes people with a creative mind don't always have a business brain.

Often, freelancers and creatives need a little help with the fundamentals of running a business and working for themselves. And that's where Solo can help. We wanted to create an app that helped those going-it-alone survive in the competitive world of business.

If you decide to strike out on your own, we want you succeed. So we created Solo, a beautiful app to help you plan projects, organise work and then make sure you're paid for it at the end. Going freelance is a big step and our aim is to make sure you don’t stumble.

Project Need

Solo is unique in both the way it looks and the way it works. It has a stunning, design-led UI which pairs typographic style with flexible functionality to create a totally fresh approach to project management. However, there's more to Solo than just its stunning looks.

As well as gorgeous design, Solo utilises cutting-edge technology to create a user experience like no other. Innovative use of HTML5 and Javascript means Solo has no save buttons and a persistent page state, making it extremely fast regardless of internet speed and connection.

User Experience

Solo is an online app that engages with its users in a number of unique ways; first and foremost, by facilitating an intuitive and pleasurable user experience. It also turns old ideas about structure and workflow on their head, adapting to the way you want to work.

Our team also has a great relationship with our users, many of who have become Solo evangelists. This is because Solo users not only love the app, but are often actively involved in its development, giving us regular feedback on existing features and ideas for new ones.

Knowing how tough freelancing can be, we also try to help and promote our users by showcasing their work via our email marketing and website. This has helped create something that's more than just a product but the start of a freelancer community with Solo at its centre.

Project Marketing

Solo’s marketing strategy involves trying to help our users and other freelancers. One way we do this is by finding affiliates with services relevant to them and other creatives. We then arrange discounts for our users and exposure for our app.

We also have a blog in which we showcase work from our users and post content relevant to our target market. As well as our own blog we also try and get Solo reviewed by other bloggers who have an interest in forward thinking development and great front end design.

Social media plays a big role, too. Through honest, open and genuine engagement we've built a strong Twitter following of over 14K followers. We also host fortnightly 'tweetups' so users can ask questions, get advice and share their knowledge about freelancing.

Lastly, we also send out regular emails and newsletters. These include discounts for users, and are a mixture of fun and informal topics, useful information on freelancing, and all the latest news about Solo.

Project Privacy

Thrive adhere to UK data protection laws and use industry standard SSL certificates and privacy policies to ensure our users data is confidential, safe and secure.
