Project Brief
With a menu designed by Chur Burger’s Warren Turnbull, great food was always going to be a main focus and we knew the setting needed to be as well considered. With such possibility of what a Hello Kitty Diner could look like our task was to go beyond any pre?conceived ideas and make her and the diner’s experience uniquely Australian.
Project Innovation/Need
Central to the design concept was developing a strong identity and building on the highly recognisable profile of the Hello Kitty brand. Luchetti Krelle worked closely with Tokyo based Hello Kitty creators Sanrio to create the logo and Hello Kitty’s face was incorporated into a stylised burger. The Sanrio collaboration extended from the Hello Kitty mascot statue greeting diners as they enter, to a series of Hello Kitty cartoon poses and kawaii icons that were incorporated into the custom wallpaper, fabrics and tableware. Overall, the design concept combined classic and iconic elements with a modern twist, adding to the excitement and entertainment value of the Hello Kitty brand.
Design Challenge
The Instagram generation are highly aware and we had to create a “lights?camera?action” world, a live TV set with Social Media as the audience. Hello Kitty’s cheeky energy inspired the colours, patterns and of course pink had to be a feature but we deliberately steered away from the cutesy. Hello Kitty had to extend her hand and gain new followers.
Sustainability
The approach to sustainability was through an innovative design concept which will withstand evolving design trends and remain as a diverse project.
