[interview] the project story

Project Overview
The brief was to completely transform the space from what was a very dark and narrow tunnel like space into a fresh, open and paired back interior. Reimagining the space with ambiguity, so as to appeal to the wine bar drinkers and diners alike, we wanted the space to be approachable and casual with an air of sophistication.

Project Brief
Wall linings were stripped back to reveal the old brickwork and archways that had been covered up. The archways now have mirror inserts that are edge lit which helps to create a soft indirect light and the illusion of space.
The backlit glass blocks to the larder are a bold statement bringing what is usually a tool used in architecture to harness natural light. Terracotta vents have been stacked and backlit above and below the hot pass with flat steel plate trims. Brass is used throughout as a trim and finishing detail to the simple palette of blue, timber and white.
Project Innovation/Need
The private dining room features a flexible octagonal table that breaks apart and tessellates into multiple configurations for smaller groups when required.
Design Challenge
Working with a limited budget and confined space meant our design had to compliment the space without feeling sparse.
Sustainability
Utilising the existing structure and maintaing materials.
