#getsmartbag is a multifunctional minaudiere with an external phone case that allows the owner to speak without removing the phone from the bag. This gold plated brass product features a brocade-lined pivot closure compartment to hold necessities, a magnetic hinged panel for easy access to the camera, and an optional hidden cross body drop-in chain. *Patent pending.

Project Brief

The #getsmartbag is the first handbag ever to incorporate a smartphone into the design, and this invention is patent pending. With a chic, streamlined design that securely clips in a smartphone, the #getsmartbag redefines a concept of a clutch; an elegant style for modern living. The magnetic flip provides the convenience for picture taking from both front and rear camera. The brocade-lined compartment holds your essentials (credit cards, cash and lipstick), and the drop in cross body chain is perfect for a hands-free outing and people on the go for day and night. The practicality of never having to fumble in a bag to find your phone to take or make a call, check emails and messages is also unparalleled. It is available in snakeskin, embossed croc/stripe and Swarovski crystals with an option for customization.

Project Innovation/Need

In this digital age, a deciding factor for many customers is whether a bag will fit their phone. Our answer to this question was to design a chic, bold and new concept of a minaudiere with intrinsic phone case that attaches to the exterior of a functional bag. We launched with the #getsmartbag tailored to the iPhone 5/5S in March 2014, but will have other smartphone options in development.

Design Challenge

Our design challenge for this product was to seamlessly integrate a highly functional design that is also relevant on a fashion design level. We went through many prototypes before finalizing a mold with a streamlined design with a pivot panel, mirrored back, compartment and structure to hold the phone securely.

Sustainability

The #getsmartbag is an economically sustainable approach to living for our consumers as it is multi-functional and suitable for all occasions day and night. In terms of production, the design is adaptable for different iterations of color and size changes. As technology and smartphone designs change, we are able to quickly modify to answer to market needs.
