Project Brief

A place for everything and everything in its place, that's the inspiration for our Align rug. Hand woven by the expert craftspeople at Odabashian Rugs using the finest silk and New Zealand wool, our design expands on the 2mm x 2mm grid that forms the base of all rugs to create a design feature from its production with the benefit of facilitating the perfect alignment of furniture upon it.
And just think of how much fun it'll be to move things around ever so slightly under the noses of those with Align.

Project Innovation/Need

Revive the dying art of hand knotted rugs for a contemporary market.

Design Challenge

Utilize the handmaking process of rug knotters by incorporating the limitations of the process (a 2mmx2mm grid) to become integral to the design.

Sustainability

Hand made and completely sustainable in its production and material sourcing. Over 1 million hand knots in each rug provide much needed work to the craftsmen of this dying art.

This award celebrates creative and innovative design for either a component or overall product. Consideration given to aspects that relate to human usage, aesthetics, selection of components and materials, and the resolution of assembly, manufacturing and the overall function.
