Project Overview

Elegant and user-friendly, the Ploom modelTwo system offers consumers an attractive alternative to other tobacco products on the market today. With its technologically advanced approach to tobacco consumption, Ploom, Inc. is pioneering a cultural shift away from the archaic cigarette and the longstanding practice that involves chemicals and additives. With the Ploom modelTwo system, Ploom, Inc. is raising the bar for tobacco products across the industry.

Ploom pods come in six flavors, offering consumers a variety of blends. The device heats the pod only to the point of vaporization, providing an optimal flavor experience of each blend without the additives and chemicals inherent in combustible tobacco systems like cigarettes. The result is an improved tobacco experience for consumers like nothing else on the market today.

Project Brief

The Ploom modelTwo system, consisting of the Ploom modelTwo device and Ploom pods, is revolutionizing the concept of tobacco consumption. Similar to how a Nespresso machine functions to create an individual coffee experience from a capsule, the Ploom modelTwo device provides a premium single-serving tobacco experience from a pod of loose-leaf pipe tobacco.

Ploom pods come in six flavors, offering consumers a variety of blends. The device heats the pod only to the point of vaporization, providing an optimal flavor experience of each blend without the additives and chemicals inherent in combustible tobacco systems like cigarettes. The result is an improved tobacco experience for consumers like nothing else on the market today.

Project Innovation/Need

Products within the tobacco industry have long gone unchanged, so the primary goal in creating the Ploom modelTwo system was to forge a new direction in the tobacco space by meeting the incredible swell of consumer demand that had gone unaddressed. Unlike e-cigarettes, cigarettes and other tobacco products, Ploom is defining a completely new category of tobacco vaporization.

Today's consumers across many industries desire superior and technologically advanced products - tobacco consumers are no exception. The Ploom modelTwo system heats, never burns, tobacco to provide an optimal vapor experience that is flavorful and fulfilling. Unlike cigarettes, which burn tobacco and additives, or e-cigarettes, which vaporize non-authentic liquid nicotine, the Ploom system caters to tobacco lovers who desire a better method of consumption.

As is true of all Ploom products, the consumer point of view was crucial to the development of the Ploom modelTwo system. Design Challenge

Products within the tobacco industry have changed very little to accommodate consumer needs and provide better methods of tobacco consumption. Ploom, Inc. was founded in 2007 with the purpose of answering that challenge – to create a disruptive product in a stagnant industry.

For Ploom, Inc., the challenges of being disruptive with the Ploom modelTwo system include operating within an ever-changing regulatory environment that has formed around vaporization technology, and educating consumers on the functionality, benefits and superiority of this completely new and unique system.

Sustainability

The Ploom modelTwo system is simple, proprietary and environmentally friendly – the modelTwo device is reusable and the pods are recyclable.

The packaging for the Ploom modelTwo is also a key consideration in the economic sustainability of the product. All packaging elements are high quality and durable, and deliver in terms of both functionality and appearance. The ultimate goal of the design is to create a vessel that will be valued by the consumer and used to store the device long after purchase.
