Project Overview

Choosing a home or commercial space off the plan is usually based on a number of decisions. ASPECT Digital introduce the Immersive Display Suite (IDS).
Based on virtual reality technology, this revolutionary product gives potential buyers/tenants the ability to navigate inside the built environment, gain a realistic feel for the space, and complete the specification process all inside the IDS, all at the click of a button. They can view how their choices work together, and have a total appreciation of the final product’s look and feel.
ASPECT’s IDS will export a full specification sheet of these choices including pricing.

Project Brief

Charter Hall engaged ASPECT Digital to create an Immersive Display Suite of their 333 George St development.
The 333 George St IDS allows potential commercial clients to toggle between, and move around a bare space, and three very different possible office fit outs at the click of a button.
Within the IDS users can adjust colours, examine different layouts or choose alternative fixtures and fittings. ASPECT’s IDS comes packaged with the ability to export fly through videos or snapshots and publish online or onto digital media. A useful tool for the potential customer as they can take a high quality video of the finished product to show others.
This eliminates the cost of a purpose-built display suite, marketing images or renders as the IDS can perform all these functions. The sales team behind 333 George St are able to meet with prospective clients at any location, armed just with a laptop, and take them through the environment even before it has been constructed.

Project Innovation/Need

The Immersive Display Suite came about because technology has recently hit a sweet spot where it has become possible to create realistic 3 dimensional scenes which render quick enough that we can create interactive worlds, which can be manipulated and observed in real time. Using the IDS, property developers or architects can import their 3D CAD data into the software, and see it rendered in high quality, with realistic finishes and from any angle. They need no longer be reliant on 3D models, flat plans or artist's impressions and the imagination of their potential clients to sell designs that have not yet been built. They can take the client into the realistic space, giving them an accurate sense of space and scale.

Design Challenge

For architects and developers who want to show their creations to the public before their designs have been constructed, the traditional solution is to produce a series of 2D still renders, or short animated fly through videos, which will hopefully give potential buyers an understanding of what is being sold.In addition, it is possible to load multiple design options, and be able to switch between them on the fly. This allows the customer to see thousands of permeations and events, ensuring that the user has a comprehensive understanding of the design and the decisions that they are making in terms of fit-out and floor-plan options.

Effectiveness

The IDS, along with virtual reality technology, has given the user a powerful tool with which they can experience, to a high degree of realism, that which has not been built yet. The IDS allows the user to be transported into a 3 dimensional world where a sense of scale, light, form and interactivity are conveyed in rich clarity. Objects can be moved, furniture replaced, paint colour adjusted, all with a click of a button and all updated instantly. Users can virtually walk through scenes, take snapshot images from any angle, create their own fly-through animations and export those to stand alone video files. These experiences simply cannot be realised with still images and pre-rendered animations.

This award celebrates creative and innovative design for visual communications and display including traditional and digital signage and three dimensional displays intended to persuade an audience to purchase or take some action upon products, ideas or services.
