Project Overview

Motorola is undoubtedly a leader in the telecommunications sector – a household name that is renowned for its reliable products and setting benchmarks in the industry which has benefited millions of individuals across the globe. Realising the need for a customised online newsroom, Motorola Australia required a digital platform that could effectively house localised articles, case studies, PR, media generated, and press releases.

Project Brief

Motorola Australia required a destination that users could easily access news and relevant articles on the go, and share articles of interest over the major social media services, various marketing channels and via email, and more importantly show leadership qualities which would add to the local as well as global credibility of the Motorola brand.

We envisioned a dynamic yet clean and concise user experience, integrated with elegant and subtle animations and a strong development backend. By keeping the layout simple yet engaging, we would fulfil the primary outcome of making the site more accessible on mobile devices - increasing readership and engagement within the local Australian audience.

Project Innovation/Need

- The overall design was influenced by the need to cater for mobile devices, which then required the design to be flexible enough to appeal aesthetically in both the mobile and desktop viewports

- A strong navigation and search capability allows users to immediately find what they are looking for, as there exists a large amount of articles and information

- Effective mega menu to sort information in a logical and easily accessible manner for the user

- Aesthetically strong presentation of content compared to the previous site experience

- The site encourages you to be enriched with relevant content and lead through the site to find more information

- Utilises Wordpress post formats to make it simple for editors to add various types of content, and custom queries that decide where on the site to display that content

- Seamlessly integrates contact forms into a rigid legacy system that was previously unfriendly to present publicly

- Backend administration made extremely easy compared to the previous website - custom built around clients needs - eliminated a lot of issues from the old site

Design Challenge

- To logically display an ever-growing library of news and articles in an aesthetically appealing manner, which encourages the readership to return and also share the content within the website

- To present a digital experience that would actively engage the audience on both the mobile and desktop platforms

- To ensure that strict hosting and security guidelines were adhered to, extra resources were required in deployment, it was a smooth experience and all international stake holders were satisfied

User Experience

- Takes full advantage of touch event to enable the site to respond similar to a native mobile application

- Full responsive design means all content is accessible and readable on any device

- Clean, simple and professional design that makes the content king and the navigation simple

- Ability to natively share any article on the relevant social networks, which is integral when viewing on mobile devices

- Fast caching and server side compression speeds up processing and delivery time, crucial when viewing on mobile devices, to reduce data and increase loadspeed

- ‘Similar articles’ algorithm keeps visitors engaged with the content for longer

- Combines three mega-menus into a simple and easy to understand navigation structure, while still being flexible enough to modify

- Simple call-to-actions and social network integration drives visitors to become connected with the Motorola Solutions ecosystem

- Implements SVG graphics to take full advantage of high pixel densities, adding a touch of quality

- Utilises SVG icon animation for increased fluid user experience and increase performance

- A simple HTML5 compliant markup structure makes the site easy to redesign and modify in future
