Project Brief

After producing over 170 Photo Booths into the market place over the last 2 years, our customers were facing new challenges as the industry advanced. They wanted a way to offer the same services with a much more portable piece of equipment in order to cut down on operating costs.

The ATOM is our response. With the same social media, printing and user driven interactivity as the larger heavier Photo Booths in the market, the ATOM can be transported in a simple car by a single person. This drastically cuts down on the investment required in transport, wages, maintenance and equipment. It also allows them to cater to a larger number and type of events to drastically increase income.

Project Innovation/Need

The key aim of the product was to create something that was fully featured and packed into a very small and portable package. Our customers wanted this kind of functionality so that they could meet market demand for more hires and service them with less cost and more profit.

First and foremost the physical structure was designed to transform into a suit case sized package that could be handled in the same way. It fits into a car allowing staff to transport very easily and cost effectively while eliminating the need to invest in expensive transport.

In terms of features it provides the latest in social media integration and user driven touch screen interface. It caters to Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, SMS, Email, FTP and QR codes with support for Google Chromecast. This makes the ATOM an incredibly effective Social Media marketing tool allowing big brands to utilise photo sharing as a powerful branding platform.

The sleek design also makes it attractive in a public space and allows each owner to impose their own company brand.

Design Challenge

The market need was clear to us. The challenge was in meeting the demand while preserving functionality. Every centimeter of space in the ATOM as utilised as best as possible while choosing high quality commercial components to fit. Internal cable paths needed to be planned and designed in such a way as to not cause damage during the folding of the unit. Stability was also key to making sure the unit was grounded properly so as to be safe for use in public space. The powder coated metal construction material was again selected due to its reliability and strength. The components within each section was carefully considered in order to make sure that lifting during set up and pack down was OH&S friendly while preserving stability. The floor panel, wheel section and covering case was designed to secure and protect all of the elements during transport.

Sustainability

We are very proud to be a completely Australian and a local designer and manufacturer providing employment to Australians. It has been hard to maintain but it is integral to our business culture and our future aims to remain an Australian manufacturer. We employ local Australians and work with Australian suppliers and manufacturers as much as possible. All of our design and programming work is done in house along with our product manufacture.

Our design has been carefully incorporated to reduce weight and components for both durability and to lower freight and handling impacts. In place of traditional studio flash strobes, we now use energy efficient LED lighting which requires fewer components and less power draw to operate. In addition the LED lighting is safer and again reduces weight and space.

This award celebrates creative and innovative design for either a component or overall product. Consideration given to aspects that relate to human usage, aesthetics, selection of components and materials, and the resolution of assembly, manufacturing and the overall function.
