What past winners are saying

REA Group

What prompted you to enter the awards and how has your award been received, particularly by your clients and team?
When we entered the awards, our realestate.com.au mobile apps had been downloaded over 1.2 million times (now over 2 million!) and our latest updates had received great feedback from consumers. The awards were an opportunity for our apps to be recognised by the people who use them as well as the broader mobile industry. As you can imagine, we were pretty chuffed to win a Mobie and kudos goes to our project team who created the winning iPhone and iPad universal app.

How have you promoted your award?
As well as sharing the news with our community through our websites, media releases and social media channels, we have used the award logo in advertising campaigns.

Can we look forward to seeing any new projects in the 2013 Awards?
Yes - we are lucky to have an in-house technology team that is constantly refreshing our mobile apps and content. In fact, mobile is so important to our business we are now 'mobile-prime' - meaning we launch new products and services for mobile first, then for desktops. So watch this space!

Buro North

What prompted Buro North to enter the awards and how has your award been received, particularly by your clients who commissioned the project and your team?
Buro North entered the MDA in both 2011 and 2012. We are keen to support the local industry and find that being a past winner of design awards is a great way to raise our profile and see what others are doing in our industry. We list our awards in our company profile and find it one of the many attributes our clients look for when they are looking at who to work with.

How have you promoted your award?
In our Company Profile and on our website and blog site.

Can we look forward to seeing any new projects in the 2013 Awards?

Big Mouth Funnels

What prompted you to enter the awards and how has your award been received?
The Sydney Design Award was a great opportunity to publicise the funnels and help maximise their exposure. Their shortlisting and final winning status meant I could confidently exhibit and promote the funnels knowing they had been given a recognised stamp of approval - People immediately took notice.

How have you promoted your award?
The winning funnels were featured in the local press, radio and they even had a television appearance – all thanks to the Sydney Design Awards. The winning logo sticker also proudly appears on the products in retail stores - further increasing their desirability. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UHW-0Zf0X8 The social media component of the awards also helped to widen their exposure considerably.

Can we look forward to seeing any new projects in the 2013 Awards?
Currently I am solely working on promoting the funnels but designing is my passion and the fun of entering competitions is irresistible. Perhaps next year will see a new project come off the drawing board.

Past Winners Statements

"Awards are about recognition for quality across a range of criteria. They are important because they celebrate thinking, creativity, skill and performance. Awards assist to set standards and remind us of what is possible. Awards inspire and motivate. What is so special about the MDA awards is the focus on bridging the gap between design practice, and the customer. This gives the MDA judging a democratic credibility beyond elite aesthetics and emphasises the purpose behind great commercial design which is to deliver ROI and enhance the customer experience."
Richard Henderson, CEO and Creative Director, R-Co

"We were honoured to be shortlisted in the 2011 Melbourne Design Awards with our entries for Crown Metropol Architecture, Interiors and Maze Restaurant. The Brisbane Design Awards are an innovative and significant platform, bringing our work both Interior and Architectural to a broad audience. Bates Smart's collaboration with specialist consultants, designers and contractors continues to contribute substantially our projects. Honouring the creative input of our peers is of vital importance to our industry as a whole."
Jan Eastwood, Associate Director, Bates Smart

"It's wonderful that the Melbourne Design Awards have included music video as a design medium - it's a rare creative space and can straddle various disciplines, so it is rarely recognised. Winning a Melbourne Design Awards for Motion and Animation is a great honour and we are extremely grateful."

We look forward to entering again next year."
Kirsten Bauer, Director at ASPECT Studios Melbourne

"Receiving any award, and particularly a Melbourne Design Award, is significant because it reinforces the benefit of all that hard work. The Melbourne Design Awards are different because they acknowledge both a professional jury and public votes. The awards reflect a vast range of design mediums, such as graphic design and installation design and therefore sets any award winner within the context of a design industry. For HASSELL, the award exposes to the community, our broad and diverse design agenda."
Scott Walker

"JDA Architects were delighted to recieve a Melbourne Design Award for our Imaging at Olympic Park fitout. In particular we valued the recognition through a broader design community than from just within our own profession. The fact that the Melbourne Design Awards covered such a variety of design disciplines helped make the programme a worthwhile statement about the state of design in Melbourne, and to be an award winner in such company is very rewarding. Further our clients are thrilled to bits and now proudly display their copy of the award at their centre."
