Komosion created the Aurora smartphone app, which was the first of its kind in the world to allow female victims who experience domestic abuse to access information on help services. The app provides a GPS ‘call-for-help’ system that can alert recipients of the sender’s location and allows users to create a trusted network of friends who can be easily contacted. Komosion applied a user-centred design (UCD) approach to map the domestic violence “journeys” and created a ‘Cycle of Abuse’ framework, establishing where and how the app could assist people in a cycle of domestic violence.

For over a decade the Better Health Channel (BHC) has been helping improve the health and wellbeing of all Victorians and is regarded as Australia’s pre-eminent consumer health and medical information website with over 30 million visits annually. Building on this success the department launched the BHC iPhone and iPad app in 2011 to great acclaim and in 2012 released a second iOS version (V2) which has achieved even greater popularity amongst users. The V2 app provides the full compliment of health information from the Better Health Channel thereby helping health consumers make more informed, timely and confident health decisions.

Sun Effects Booth – Predict your skin’s future - Queensland Department of Health / Mettro Digital Agency

The free Sun Effects Booth App aims to prevent skin cancer by simulating the potential effects of sun exposure on the face. Sun Effects is simple, fun and engaging. The user completes a quiz and uploads a photo. The App augments the photo, showing how they could look in the future. Users are encouraged to re-use the App to see if they can change the outcome by changing their behaviour. The design of Sun Effects Booth is intuitive and clever. It uses a creative approach targeting young people’s - vanity by highlighting the sun’s potential damaging effects.

VicRoads – VicTraffic - VicRoads / Wave Digital Pty Ltd

VicTraffic is the new suite of mobile apps from VicRoads that help you avoid getting stuck in traffic. VicTraffic is available as a responsive website, as well as native iPhone and Android apps. The VicTraffic project consolidated (and replaced) 5 separate applications, which previously were used to disseminate info about alerts and road closures, travel times, live traffic cameras, road works and events, and tow allocations. Accommodating such a range of data and technologies into user friendly interfaces was no mean feat!
