Project Brief

Within the last three years, the evolution of smartphone technology has seen heavy demand for mobile apps that make life easier and more importantly, save time.

Our unique iPhone app allows clients to trade CFDs on-the-go, giving them the ability to make decisions on global market events as they happen.

Along with social media, providing real-time market and economic information, plus the ability to trade on-the-go, means active clients can now react instantly, with more freedom, choice and security.

Project Innovation / Need

Our mobile apps combine powerful functionality and an intuitive interface to allow clients to trade on-the-go with ease.

Each application we design is a native app, optimised for a specific mobile operating system. This approach has allowed us to make full use of all of the elements that each device provides and develop feature-rich apps.

Traders can keep up with fast-moving markets and view live news feeds from Thomson Reuters. With the 'fast app switching' functionality, traders can flick instantly from the IG Markets app to our expert market analysis on our website.

We are also the first CFD provider in Australia to offer an iPhone app with Direct Market Access (DMA) trading alongside over-the-counter (OTC) CFD trading. This technology offers clients increased market liquidity and the ability to trade inside the order book, all from their mobile.

User Experience

Designed to maximise traders’ time, our iPhone app helps clients trade CFDs quickly and efficiently.

Clients can access our online trading platform from any mobile. They can open and close positions, use Stop and Limit Orders and fund their account through the app, while our dynamic charts are fully customisable and packed with analysis tools.

Live prices can be viewed even before logging in by simply tilting the iPhone, while news feeds can be tailored to clients’ chosen markets

Project Marketing

During 2011, we completed the initial roll-out of apps for iPhone, iPad, Android, Blackberry and Windows Phone 7. Our e-marketing strategy included promotion on our website and via email communication to clients. We also targeted existing mobile users by creating links to the App Store from our mobile site.

The campaign was highly successful in not only prompting clients to download the app, but also to trade with it. Every day, 16,300 clients use our mobile trading apps*. In June 2012 alone, 21% of all client-initiated transactions were made using one of our mobile apps, while 43% of the clients who traded with us in June executed at least one transaction using a mobile app.

Client usage of our apps has increased considerably, and our aim is to invest appropriately to ensure that we are at the forefront of this key technology.
