Project Brief
Sometimes we watch films to escape from reality for a little while as it makes us feel like we are in the movie. Therefore we have decided to design this cinema into a film production set to represent that feeling of being part of the movie, creating an exciting atmosphere for the customers as they walk in.
We have used white aluminium cladding, black triangle bars combined with spotlights on the ceiling in the lobby and gourmet concierge to enhance that film production-look.
The box office uses a mixture of materials, such as carpets to tile flooring, marble desktops to wood-like ceilings combining it with blue wall wash lights and LED backdrop lights to create an elegant and luxurious environment.
Project Innovation/Need
We have created different designs for each zone, for example in the gourmet concierge we have designed 4 posters to decorate the walls. Each one has different graphics and description of the popular food that the cinema sells – Hotdogs, churros, nachos and popcorn, creating an interesting and informative mural for the room.
We also wanted to bring the outside into the inside, by using benches and tiles that you would normally see outdoors as part of the design. The idea comes from how some movies film their exterior scenes inside instead, which enhances the feeling of being a production set even more.
Design Challenge
The challenge for this project was working with the different ceiling levels. For that reason, we created a film production roof with metal bars in the gourmet concierge, which ultimately became the main feature. This helped make the different height levels look even as the customers walk in from the ticket booth through to the lobby/gourmet concierge.
Sustainability
As stone is becoming a material that is slowly running out in the environment, we chose to use tile flooring instead, what's more is that this material is more durable for the cinema.
The interior of the toilets has a wall created by oriented strand boards - they are made up of rectangular wooden strips compressed and bonded together with wax and synthetic resin adhesives. We then used Nippon odour-less paint to finish it off.
