Event Summary

The BrisStyle Markets offer a distinctive homegrown experience in the heart of Brisbane. With the choice of two different market experiences, lovers of handmade can shop under the stars at the indie Twilight Markets in Brisbane’s King George Square or shop in style inside the iconic Brisbane City Hall. Both markets combine the laid-back attitude of southeast Queensland with the buzz of Brisbane’s CBD to create a celebration of local independent handmade art, craft and design.

The indie Twilight Market experience encourages market lovers to meander through the lantern lit stalls of over 80 local artisans supported through BrisStyle’s I ? Craft creative development program, whilst the City Hall indie Markets take local handmade craft to the next level with BrisStyle’s leading handmade artisans creating their very own pop up shops. Nestled on the ground floor of the beautiful historic Brisbane City Hall, these markets create an exclusive boutique shopping experience in the surrounds of one of Brisbane’s best-loved landmarks.

With BrisStyle renowned for its support and development of Brisbane’s vibrant creative community, these markets make for the perfect opportunity to meet the makers, learn about their journeys and give the gift of locally created handmade.

Organisation

BrisStyle Inc.

Team

BrisStyle Inc. is a not for profit incorporated association of artists and crafters who live in and around Brisbane. The group formed in March 2008 through a shared love of creating beautiful handmade things.

Since then BrisStyle has significantly blossomed to include a suite of indie craft markets designed for those who understand that little shiver of excitement that comes from producing handmade goods.

Like all not for profit membership groups we have a dedicated staff team and volunteer committee who work behind the scenes putting all the members’ thoughts and ideas into action. The BrisStyle Markets are one example of a member driven initiative and continue to grow through feedback from the local Brisbane community as well as generous support from the Brisbane City Council.

Event Details

BrisStyle’s vibrant program of engaging indie Markets, provide unique opportunities to maximise the potential creativity of Brisbane artists, crafters and designers.

Since their inception in 2008, these markets have achieved acclaim in the local Brisbane creative sector and amongst state and national craft bodies more widely; a reputation that is seeing the BrisStyle Markets being recognised as leaders in creative development for crafters worldwide.

Exclusively to celebrate and showcase locally handmade wares, these markets cater for Brisbane hobbyists, emerging crafters and those who have taken their creative businesses to the next level. Many of these professional crafters having established an esteemed reputation within the handmade scene nationally and internationally, producing some of the most exciting and successful handmade products in Australia.

To bolster BrisStyle’s reputation as Brisbane’s leader in the handmade sector, our “what can be sold” criteria for the markets has been fine-tuned to contain new genres including digital media. These markets now gain a higher profile with their overseas counterparts and remain true to their vision of being Brisbane’s only handmade art and craft market where the products are designed and created locally by the maker.

Innovation

Being a not for profit membership organisation, BrisStyle Inc. supports over 350 artists, crafters and designers who live in and around Brisbane. Their creative disciplines include jewellery design, sculpture, fine art, mixed media, fashion design, millinery and homewares and more.

The BrisStyle Markets cater for a wide scope of expertise; creating opportunities through the BrisStyle indie Co-op, which serves as an incubator for emerging artists, right through to showcasing established and nationally acclaimed professional artists in shared or single sites. The diverse range of expertise amongst the stallholders make it a destination for those who are dedicated to supporting hobbyists and emerging crafters, as well as famous professionals in their given artistic fields.

In particular, the Co-op (incubator) section is fast becoming an integral part of the development of small creative businesses in Brisbane. It creates the perfect opportunity for participants to test the water with their products and network with fellow emerging crafters, fostering relationships and ongoing business partnerships.

Dedicated to building and sustaining a vibrant creative event, BrisStyle is committed to supporting the Brisbane arts and creative business sector and small business economy through their markets and creative development opportunities.
