Summary

I have produced a collection of garments inspired the by movement and repetition found in nature, patterns found both close up and from a distance.

I am an emerging textile designer and have just launched my brand “the rag venture”, which aims at producing beautiful and unique textile prints and hand made garments. I hope to inspire a connection between the wearer and the natural environment.

Inspiration/Method

Through a range of hand driven techniques, particularly watercolour, ink and screen printing, my designs explore the negative and positive space seen in foliage and leaf structures.

Natural fibres are important in this work, echoing the raw characteristics of the subject. As in nature, no two pieces are the same, though find common ground in their colour palette and structural design.

Movement is a key aesthetic theme visited continually throughout this body of work, expressed through the shadowing and layering of sheer and draping fabrics, all screen printed by hand.

Thus, through print and garment design, my work abstracts natural forms and plays with the organic characteristics found in the structure and inter-relations of flora found in Australia.

Design Challenge

My challenge is to stimulate the appreciation of nature through textile design. I design fabric that abstracts the patterns found in nature and hope to produce well made, interesting and recognisable prints, linking the garment with the natural environment.
