Project Brief

What is bitcoin and how can I use it for the everyday and the extraordinary? The brief for our project team was to answer these questions with simple, beautiful and powerful products. From this, we created CoinJar, which makes bitcoin easy and accessible for everyone.

Powered by the world's fastest payment network, we knew CoinJar had to be easy to use, useful and fluid. As a digital currency not present in physical form, our platforms made bitcoin more real than ever with the features that we built. "

Some of these features include:
- Pay anyone in the world in under 6 seconds, for $0 using CoinJar Touch
- Send money to 196 countries, in 6 minutes, for $0 via bitcoin address or CoinJar username
- Spend bitcoin anywhere that accepts EFTPOS using CoinJar Swipe
- Convert bitcoin into cash instantly
- Global access to your money by linking your local card and bank account
- Hedge bitcoin against GBP, USD, EUR and AUD.

Through our products, we made bitcoin applicable to the everyday and the extraordinary.

Project Need

Digital currencies transform the way money flows within and between communities, for the everyday and the extraordinary. CoinJar's financial platform allows people to join a global community of millions worldwide who choose to make alternative finance a part of their personal and professional lives.

Through careful design and engineering, CoinJar enables personal finance management, facilitates connections between new fintech and existing financial infrastructure and, most importantly, near-instant remittance.

CoinJar uses the world's fastest payment network to create a next-gen personal finance account where its owner can take advantage of global and local currencies from payments to international travel and trading.

User Experience

CoinJar’s UX offers seamless connectivity between new digital currencies and payments (such as bitcoin), and traditional financial institutions (such as banks and existing merchant services). This is achieved through three core user experience types.

CoinJar’s responsive web simply lets users manage a potentially complex set of currencies, bank accounts, identity profiles and other products. It accomplishes this through interface clarity and speed, as well as treating each currency and finance type within the system as equal. As a result, paying for a coffee or settling an international remittance request contain the same number of steps and are completed in the same amount of time – a concept previously impossible with traditional finance apps.

CoinJar Touch – with its high customer satisfaction rating – users a variety of relatively new interface design concepts to create a fast and simple mobile payments app. Users can create payment requests, pay at register or transfer between their accounts with one hand and a few taps in a simple streamlined interface.

CoinJar Swipe is perhaps the most important part of the platform’s UX. By providing a debit card backed by a new digital technology, CoinJar Swipe users can request an international payment, have it fulfilled and then spend it on real-world goods and services (such as dinners, groceries, etc) in a matter of seconds. Swipe innovates on the difficult ‘last mile’ problem inherent in new technologies by creating a previously-impossible opportunity.

Project Marketing

Aside from hosting events and meetups, we keep our finger on the pulse through our loyal customers in our DNA program. Our DNA members are the early-adopters of bitcoin, who have signed up to beta-test our products, give us regular feedback and advocate our vision from the very beginning. The DNA program gives early access and pricing perks, and it's our open communication platform with our customers.

Our email marketing strategy gives our customers regular updates on new products and features, special deals and promotions and a roundup of bitcoin news. As it provides value to our bitcoin enthusiast audience, we find this has helped with fostering a strong relationship with our customer base.

We've kept a presence on channels that our audience frequents, such as Twitter, Meerkat, Reddit, Facebook and several online forums. Participating in these conversations have been integral to receiving feedback and suggestions that ensure that our products are what our target audience actually wants and needs.

Project Privacy

CoinJar's platforms make careful attempts to encourage privacy across its platforms.

When joining CoinJar, users only supply varying levels of information based on the features they want to use. At its core, the basics of CoinJar's functionality allows a user to send and receive bitcoins. For this, a user only needs to supply basic information about themselves.

As a user connects their CoinJar account to other financial infrastructure, the requirements become larger, in line with requirements set by banks and other financial institutions. CoinJar’s UX explains clearly how the platform uses and stores personal information.

In an effort to protect user accounts from attacks, users transact with other users within CoinJar via usernames rather than email addresses. At all times, the user’s login name is protected and not public, providing a small but extra layer of protection.
