Project Overview

The carsales Apple Watch app brings some of the key functions of carsales to users in streamlined and highly accessible format. The watch app enables users to quickly perform common actions involved in the car buying and selling journey, such as updating the price of your car and browsing and enquiring on your saved and recent cars. For those bigger tasks, users can easily continue their journey by handing-off their session to a larger screen.

Project Brief

At carsales, innovation is embedded into our culture. Leveraging the latest technology in the new Apple Watch, we needed to showcase how wearables can be utilised as a part of the car buying and selling process.

The key was to make sure that we weren’t just developing an app just for the technology, rather, identifying existing consumer needs, then delivering a solution that everyone will love to use.

Using the carsales Apple Watch app, buyers and sellers can access key functionality such as:
• Quickly updating the price of their car
• Receiving notifications about vehicle’s they’re interested in
• Browse and enquire on saved and recently viewed cars
• Hand-off your journey to your phone for those bigger tasks

Project Need

Carsales has been Australia’s leading automotive classifieds website for many years. With the highly publicised release of the Apple Watch, it is important to our business that we keep in touch with the latest technology so we can give our consumers the best car buying experience.

With wearables being one of the largest technology innovations since the release of the smartphone, it is imperative to carsales that we explore these new trends, learning about our consumers' needs and usage patterns so that we can deliver the best experience possible throughout the car buying and selling journey.

Taking our industry leading product suite to the wearables space is just the next step in engaging with our consumers on a holistic scale.

User Experience

Having a great customer experience is the foundation of our product and service strategy. It plays an integral part in how our brand is perceived, and this perception leads to an experience that is highly personal.

Taking our award winning unified experience to the next step in the wearables space, we investigated the most common interactions our consumers have with carsales that need to be completed quickly, such as enquiring on a car that has recently had a reduction in price.

Using the Apple Watch app, we’ve tailored the experience to support the speed and convenience of using wearable tech for micro-events (the small interactions you have along the buying and selling journey).

Project Marketing

At carsales, we have an audience of highly engaged users that love testing out our new products and services. Our marketing strategy has involved using targeted social channels to tap into a niche, tech-savvy audience via Linkedin and online blogs.

During our app development, we closely monitored user feedback via our social and app channels and used these valuable insights to improve the experience for our customers.
